Dirk Kuyt, a tough impressive striker was born in the small village of Katwijk. At the age of five, he joined Quick Boys, his local amateur side. It is said that by the time he reached the age of 12, he was given two choices of either being a professional footballer or joining his father’s profession of fishing. His impressive performances caught the attention of Dutch side FC Utrecht and as an eighteen year old he signed his first pro contract.
Dirk Kuyt has proven his abilities and skills at the uppermost level of European football by participating in both the English Football League and the Dutch League. In the 2002-03 season, under the guidance of a new coach at Utrecht, Kuyt grabbed an opportunity to establish himself in the striker’s role. The young player appeared in some 30 games in his debut season, mostly on the wing, yet he could manage to give an impressive performance and scored six goals. Kuyt thrived well in his favorite position by scoring twenty goals which helped Utrecht to win the Dutch Cup against Feyenoord, with Kuyt being declared the man of the match. The Feyenoord Rotterdam side liked Kuyt’s performance and in the year 2003, they signed this striker as a substitute for Pierre Van Hooijdonk. During his first season at Feyenoord he could strike some remarkable 22 goals, though this was not his ultimate performance.
